An external ventricular drain (EVD) is a medical device that relieves pressure on the brain caused by excess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The EVD is a thin, flexible tube that can be inserted through a small hole in the skull and into the ventricles of the brain.
The full CEFLUI EVD kit by Surgiwear India comes with:

- one 30 cm ventricular catheter with inner diameter 1.5 mm and outer diameter 3.0 mm with stylet, connector,

The External Ventricular Drain is ideal for patients who suffer a traumatic brain injury, a stroke, or a brain tumor. These conditions can cause an increase in CSF, which can lead to increased pressure on the brain. Moreover, this pressure uncontrolled can be quite sinister.
The EVD works by draining excess CSF from the ventricles and into a collection bag or container. The set has systems that measure the pressure inside the ventricles. Furthermore, these systems allows the doctors to adjust the flow of CSF as needed. Doctors can administer medications through the EVD set. In addition CSF samples are collected through the set for diagnostic purposes.
Equally important, the design helps to monitor or drain cerebrospinal fluid outside the body into a closed system.
It is worthy of note that placement of these drains are usually a temporal treatment plan.
