Gravity-assisted Medium pressure VP shunts for hydrocephalus made by Surgiwear India.
VP shunts drains excess fluids from the brain usually caused by obstruction in the normal outflow or decreased absorption of the fluid. Furthermore, it is a very cost efficient system for management of Hydrocephalus.
These systems use gravity to regulate the flow of CSF, suitable for patients who are unable to tolerate the pressure associated with other types of VP shunts.
To Classify the systems, it comes in 3 grades:
- High pressure shunt
- Medium pressure shunt
- Low-pressure shunt
The Medium pressure VP shunts design, maintains an optimal pressure 70-150 mmH2O, in the brain for most patients. It diverts excess Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from the brain’s ventricles. To explain further, this type of Hydrocephalus system are specifically designed to allow for greater control over CSF drainage. Inadvertently, improving overall patient outcome.
