A Lumbar drain(Spinal Drain) is a medical device that removes cerebrospinal fluid from the spine. Inadvertently, this relieves pressure from the brain, which helps in treating conditions like hydrocephalus, Traumatic brain Injuries and some cases of meningitis. The spinal drain consists of a small catheter will be inserted into the spinal canal through a needle. After this, the catheter connects to a system that drains the CSF which can also measure it too.

The lumbar drains are ideal in conditions that can cause an increase in CSF, which can lead to increased pressure on the brain.
